Biography

Steve Shen has three years of experience in multi-collector mass spectrometry. Joining PNNL as a post-bachelor’s research associate in January 2016, he has been working on various high precision mass spectrometry techniques under the guidance of Dr. Eirik Krogstad. His initial focus was on enhancing ionization efficiency for actinides for Thermal Ionization Mass Spectrometry (TIMS), but has since transitioned to both method development of as well as day to day analyses by Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS). Along with Alex Mitroshkov, he is the primary steward of the three NuInstruments multi-collector ICP-MS in the 331 Life Sciences building, and his work supports a broad range of studies ranging from fish ecology to nuclear non-proliferation.
